R. Holmes - Gas Safe Registered Plumber and Heating Engineer
The Gas Safe Regiter is the national watchdog for gas safety in the United Kingdom.
Anyone carrying out gas work must have a Gas Safe Register ID card. If not, they are breaking the law and putting you and your family at risk. As a registered plumber and Gas Engineer I am registered to carry out boiler installations, boilers services, heating services and many other complex gas engineer related activities.
You can check we are on the register here by entering our GAS BUSINESS ID number 223516.
Gas safety is one of the most important factors in having a safe home and work place. The dangers that surround unsafe gas appliances are deadly serious. Poorly maintained, faulty or badly installed gas work leads to carbon monoxide poisoning, the effects of which can be fatal.
It’s not always easy to spot an illegal gas fitter for a fully qualified Gas Safe registered engineer. Always ask to see your gas engineer’s Gas Safe Register ID card to make sure they are safe and legal.
The Gas Safe register is here to make sure you don’t fall into the trap of paying for illegal gas work with your health, and possibly your life.
How often should I have a gas saftey check
Your gas appliances, including your gas boiler, oven, hob and gas fires should be serviced according to the manufacturer’s guidelines (at least once a year) as and I can do this for you.
If you do not have your gas appliances checked and serviced every year you could be putting you and your family in danger of carbon monoxide poisoning.
Signs that your appliances need servicing
Look out for warnings signs that show your gas appliances need to be serviced:
- Your gas appliance is not working properly
- Your appliance is burning with a lazy yellow or orange flame instead of a crisp blue flame
- You can see soot or yellow/brown staining around or on gas appliances
- The pilot light keeps going out
- There is increased condensation inside windows
What should I expect from my gas safety check or service?
During a gas safety check or service, I will be checking:
- your appliance is burning correctly and not producing Carbon Monoxide
- harmful gases are being removed from the appliance safely to the air outside
- that any ventilation routes are clear and work properly
- all the safety devices are working
As a minimum, the record of a gas safety check is to check:
- appliances are positioned in the right place
- any flue or chimney serving appliances is safe and installed correctly
- there is a good supply of combustion air (ventilation) to appliances
- to make sure appliances are on the right setting and are burning correctly
- appliances are operating correctly and are safe to use
